  • The Heartland Cancer Foundation invites you to attend our 2023 Oncology Symposium! This year’s event will feature keynote speakers Dr. Matthew Lunning and Madison Kaltenberger.     The Trauma Nursing Core Course, developed by the Emergency Nurses Association, is designed for registered nurses who have at least six months of clinical nursing experience in an emergency care setting. Other health care professionals may audit the course.Trauma nursing, as a discipline, refers to the process and content of the various roles nurses have in the care of the trauma patient. The purpose of TNCC is to present knowledge, refine skills and build a firm foundation in trauma nursing. The Trauma Nursing Core Course consists of a combination of lecture time and skills stations.

    Course Director: Jodi DeWitt, RN, MSN, has more than 25 years of experience as a nurse. Jodi has worked at various critical care area hospitals and emergency rooms in Nebraska. She is a member of the Emergency Room Nurses Association. She is a certified instructor for TNCC.

    This course focuses on the training requirements for the Administrator in Training (AIT)/mentoring program as required for becoming a licensed Nursing Home Administrator (NHA). The class will assist you with AIT placement on-site with a certified preceptor and provide support through the licensure requirements as you prepare and learn the nursing home administrator career.

    You will be able to:

    • Interpret the AIT process by starting and submitting a respective state licensing board/jurisdiction application for approvalCalculate and submit AIT hours (For example, 640 hours for NE) as required for the licensure process
    • Identify the current level of knowledge of the National Association of Long Term Care Administrators Boards (NAB) Domain of Practices through a self-assessment
    • Apply leadership skills and analyze the importance of multidisciplinary team planning and communications.
    • Summarize knowledge, skills, and abilities of experiences gained through the AIT.
    • Examine resources provided to you through the class and the training site.
    • Prepare and practice for the NAB exam.

    What’s All the Buzz? Core Competencies & Competency-Based Education

    TThis conference will help nurse educators increase their confidence and knowledge related to the new nursing essentials. Nurse educators will become aware of the shift to competence-based education. This will increase competence and knowledge related to the accreditation process.

    Dr. Corbridge will guide participants regarding new nursing essentials implemented in 2021, identifying a shift to competency-based education. Education is needed regarding new nursing essentials and in implementing competency-based education in nursing programs.

    This information will assist in providing favorable outcomes in teaching nursing programs.

    Course Offerings

    This interactive course provides a broad overview of the historical and cultural aspects of infant feeding, while reviewing best breastfeeding practices.

    Presented in a small group, live Zoom setting, the content focuses on breastfeeding from a psychosocial and a scientific perspective.

    The Nebraska Sleep Conference will provide continuing education for Sleep Technologists and others interested in the diagnosis, management and treatment of sleep disorders. Continuing education credits will be specifically approved for those needing to maintain the RPSGT credential. Continuing education credits also can be submitted for maintaining Nebraska Respiratory Therapist licenses, as well as maintaining the credentials through the NBRC.

    • Principles of vascular-interventional radiography, patient care management and interactions
    • Usage of medications and contrast media
    • Human anatomy and physiology
